Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts

Based on real people, events, and historical photos, our team of artists created illustrations in a unique painterly style and scene-based color palettes. Animation and camera movements were kept to a minimum allowing the emotion to be conveyed through each scene's shot composition and detailed facial expressions. Quick transitions were paired with the narration to bring the viewer from scene to scene.

Overall, we created roughly 200 seconds of animated content over six scenes, including the enlistment of Moses Williams, the life of Cathy Williams, the battle of Mexico, and the final ride of Charles Young.

We partnered with PNW-based filmmaker Dru Holley and Black Bald Films to create the animated scenes in the new documentary Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts, which premiered at the Seattle International Film Festival early 2022 and showed in other nationally-renowned festivals.

It was an honor to work with local filmmakers on this incredible project. Buffalo Soldiers: Fighting on Two Fronts explores the often-contradictory role played by the Buffalo Soldiers throughout American history, with particular emphasis on the settling of the American West.

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.
